KATHERINE TECK has worked as a pianist for dance at the State University of New York, College at Purchase; at Sarah Lawrence College; the YM-YWHA of Mid-Westchester; and other studios. She has performed as a horn player with orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles, as well as for ballet and modern dance.
A graduate of Vassar College, she earned a master's degree in composition of music at Columbia University. Subsequently she worked in the concert music department of Broadcast Music, Inc. and then started her own business, The Modern Listeners' Record Club. She has also worked as a newspaper reporter and as an editor of nonfiction books on the arts.
For this volume, she did extensive first-hand interviewing of leading artists in the field over a period of several years. Two companion volumes are in preparation: Musicians in the Dance Studio and Music in the Training of Dancers.
