Opportunities in Music
MUSIC IS BOTH an art and a business. For the vast majority of human beings, however, it must serve chiefly as a recreation, perhaps even a luxury, with no economic value and often a minimum of aesthetic significance.
There are many opportunities in music for those who are fully qualified--from the fabulous stardom of the occasional genius, whose spectacular success depends on far more than mere musical ability, to the practical and enormously important work of the minor artists, entertainers, artisans, and teachers.
In addition there is the unsung army of almost indispensable workers possessing a musical background and enthusiasm, who contribute so much as researchers, salesmen, librarians, and secretaries to such allied branches of the music business as radio, television, motion pictures, records and transcriptions, publishing, the merchandising of instruments and sheet music, public relations, and management.
