The values manifest in erotic entertainment are on a collision course with those pertaining to family as the most fundamental social institution in society. This should be clear to anyone who cares to compare the values in question.
Traditionally, family referred to the cohabitational arrangement by a man and a woman who were joined in marriage, who were committed to sexual exclusivity, who produced and raised progeny together, who strived toward common economic goals, and who supported one another through difficult times. Support often extended to parents and grandparents, as well as to grandchildren.
This conception of family seems to have undergone considerable change in recent years ( Ahrons & Rodgers, 1987). Family now refers to many cohabitational arrangements of adults that involve children. There appears to be some reluctance to confer family status to childless cohabiting sexual
