decides to keep gets put in a folder for future use. There is no more book -- only these files.I find this ritual satisfying, for when people leave college to begin student teaching or a first teaching job, they are not likely to "go by the book." They need their own ideas, expressed in the things they wrote for the course. And they need those folders, organized as they see fit, not another book to sit on the shelf. Most of all, they need some sense of what English teachers actually do -- what methods they choose to employ, what decisions they must make, what problems they must solve, and what joys they experience. If this book can provide a start in that direction, then it will have been worth the trouble it took to write.
