Predictions for the future indicate that traditional career paths are rapidly being replaced by project-based, temporary, and part-time employment relationships. Adapting to these changes requires greater flexibility in people's career goals and plans as well as in counselors' intervention strategies. With its recognition of multiple, hazy goals and emergent plans, image theory provides a strong basis for interpreting and responding proactively to the changing workplace opportunities of the future.
