Presented three musicals in the Baltimore area during the depression years, all written by * Ralph Matthews and dir. by * Sheldon D. Hoskins: Adam and Eva, Inc., a satire on the Creation; Looking at the Stars, a satire on Hollywood; and Shadows on the Moon, an allegory about the depression in Heaven.
AFRICAN AMERICAN CHARACTER CONCERT COMPANY. Concert/variety troupe of the early 1890s. ∘ William Foote, prop. A company of twenty- four singers, dancers, and speciality acts, representing all phases of Afr. Am. life and character, "from the cradle to old age and from slavery to citizenship." Mmes. * Mamie Flowers and * Marie Salika were leading singers with this troupe, which made a successful tour of Germany (including Hamburg and Munich) in the spring and summer of 1891.
