IRVING DRAMATIC CLUB , NYC. Pioneer amateur theatre group, active 1884. The club took its name from ∘ Henry Irving, the nineteenth-century English actor. It was formed to create and develop "a taste for true dramatic art among the citizens of New York" (Belcher diss., pp. 336-37). The club prod. two
