Analyzing the Environment
The instructional environment includes the conditions in which teaching occurs, the behaviors to be taught, and the consequences that follow. Part 1 begins by providing a language to talk unambiguously about behavior (Chapter 2), and then uses that language to talk about the SM curriculum (Chapter 3). The remaining chapters -- 4, 5, and 6 -- provide the language and procedures to analyze your classroom's activities, activity SM behaviors, and reinforcing consequences. Knowledge of these environmental components is prerequisite to building and using the teaching skills and procedures presented in Part 2.
