massive, and has turned out to be, in the last analysis, the world market. But it is just as empirically grounded that through the overthrow of the existing social order, through the Communist revolution (about which more later) and what is the same thing, the abolition of private property, this power so mysterious to the German theoreticians will be dissolved, and then the emancipation of every single individual will be achieved to the same extent that history transforms itself completely into world history. That the genuine spiritual riches of the individual depend entirely upon the richness of the actual relations in which he stands, is clear from the above. Single individuals will in this way only be freed from the various national and local limitations, put into practical relation to the productive activity (including spiritual production) of the whole world, and placed in a position to acquire the capacity to enjoy this all-sided production of the whole earth. That all-sided dependence, that natural-grown form of the world historical coöperation of individuals, will be transformed by the Communist revolution into a control and conscious domination of those powers that are born of the mutual reactions of men, and which have heretofore imposed upon them and ruled over them as powers completely alien.
THE working class will substitute, in the course of its development, for the old order of civil society, an association which will exclude classes and their antagonism, and there will no longer be political power, properly speaking, since political power is simply the official form of the antagonism in civil society.
3. The emancipation of labor demands the elevation of the means of labor to the common property of society and the coöperative regulation of the total labor of society, together with an equitable distribution of the proceeds of labor.
