Only twelve copies were printed. It contains the journals and correspondence then in the possession of Sir Percy and Lady Jane Shelley, selected by them for printing and private circulation only. It formed the basis of Mrs. Marshall's biography of Mary Shelley and of Dowden's life of Shelley. The journals and the Shelley letters have since been published. It is still the only printed source for some of the other correspondence.
