into Chinese and published in Oceanologia et Limnologia Sinica. Model studies of tidal estuaries have been made recently at the Talien Polytechnical Institute, according to Li (14) and displacement of coastlines in Po hai wan Bay was studied and reported by Hou (15). Distribution of isotopes in natural waters of China, as reported in an English language article by Zhanget al. (16), indicates that research is being performed on radiological as well as on chemical oceanography. This fragmentary evidence indicates that, after a late beginning, the Chinese are well on their way to full-scale participation with the Russians and Japanese in studies of the physical oceanography of the waters of the bordering seas of eastern Asia. This effort will yield scientific, and eventually material benefits in such areas as the fishing industry, improvement of waterways, navigation, and utilization of tidal energy and other resources of the sea, to mention only a few obvious applications.
