Values, and order, and meaning are indeed created by men, by men's choices. But that does not mean that they are created in their entirety by each man at each point in time; it does not mean that they are created in just any way at all, arbitrarily. For all of us, they have their foundation in human nature; and for each of us they have a further foundation in the life he has already lived, the growing-up he has already done, the language he has already learned, the person he has become.
