Jesus, Maria, Gabriell cum duobus angelis, duo virgines et
tres Judei de cognacione Marie, viii Apostoli, et ii diaboli.
¶Hail, nuightful Mary, God's mother so mild.
Hail, be thou root of all the rest; hail, be thou royal.
Hail, flower and fruit not faded nor defiled;
Hail, salve to all sinful. Now say thee I shall
Thy Son to thyself has me sent,
His messenger; soothly he says
No longer than these three days
Are left thee this life that is lent.
And therefore he bids thee look that thou blithe be,
For to bigly bliss that lord will thee bring,
There to sit with himself, all solace to see,
To be crowned for his queen and he himself King,
In mirth that shall ever be new.
He sends to thee worthily, I wis,
His palm out of Paradise,
In token that it shall be true.
¶I thank my Son seemly of his messenger.
Unto Him lastingly be aye loving,
That me thus worthily would honour on this wise,
And to his high bliss my bones for to bring.
But, good sir, name me thy name?
¶ Gabriel, obedient to bring
The bright word of his bearing,
Forsooth, lady, I am the same.
¶Now, Gabriel, that soothly is from my Son sent,
I thank thee for these tidings thou tellest to me,
And loved be that Lord for the loan that has me lent;
(Obedient I bide to work all his will.)
