Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). No Denial of Rights on Account of Sex
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
Submitted by Congress to the States for ratification on March 22, 1972. The amendment shall become part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states within seven years from the date of its submission by the Congress. As of June 1, 1975, thiry-four states had ratified.
