In this, my fourth book-length bibliography, I must give thanks once again for the collections of the various Research Divisions of the New York Public Library as well as for the Inter-Library Loan staffs of both the New York Public and Greenwich Libraries. Without the existence of these collections and the help of their ILL staffs a study of this breadth and depth would not be possible. I only hope that New York City's fiscal woes do not serve to further constrict the already limited hours these institutions are now open. To filmmakers William Greaves and St. Clair Bourne I extend an additional note of thanks for their prompt responses to my informational requests. To those who didn't respond - they know who they are . . .
I realize that acknowledgments to family, friends and loved ones are frowned upon by authors of professional writing guides but I have decided for the fourth time to ignore their advice and pay tribute to my mother. Without her continued assistance in things both related and unrelated to this work I doubt that it would have been completed.
