compassion upon your situation I have written to Mr. Baylies upon the subject-- 1 who knows much more about it than I; --and I will communicate to you his ideas upon it as soon as I receive his answer-- I hope however that you will not be discouraged by the forbidding prospect which is presented to the new-fledged adventurer--pedlar of law--from pursuing a profession in which you may arrive at eminence-- When shall you be admitted--next Nov. or next March? Almost every one of the Militia are taken from this town & went to Plymouth-- They have been gone about 3 weeks-- This makes the place very solitary-- We had a ball however before they went--in a most tremendous thunderstorm--and the next day a sailing-party or water-party on a great pond in Middle- borough. They did not call upon me to go to Plymouth--I have been however almost ashamed of myself for staying at home alone-- Should not you advise me to volunteer my services? In that case I should have to tear myself from my fair protegées-- Politics begin to rage here. The democrats themselves begin to grumble at the Administration-- How are politics with you? do the people begin to feel like rebellion in old Hampshire again? 2 I wish you would give me all the information on this subject in your power.

Yours of the 4th I received on the 12th-- We too had some very warm weather last week--for one or two days there was what might be called comfortable summer heat-- Today is as cold as the devil-- The action of Howard vs. Howard and Williams terminated in favour of the plaintiff. Sproat, it is said, came off with flying colours-- The trial began last Saturday about eleven o'clock in the forenoon and was not ended till eight in the evening--Sproat exerted himself to get it continued but Dewey who only of the Judges was present would not suffer it-- It is suspected and I believe with reason that on the very night the case was decided an attachment was laid on the land of Snell by Howard & Williams to the amount of their respective claims-- 1
People talk to me about redeeming land taken in execution, by the defendant within one year after it is levied-- I am unable to find any such law. Will you inform me how the case is?
You have probably before you receive this heard of the great doings
