New York May 2 1833.
Mr. Balestier is desirous of obtaining a permission, from the government, to trade with the Indians in East Florida, from Tampa Bay, southward, on the gulf of Mexico. His wife owns lands in Florida and he is about to go there to settle. I told him that I would speak to you on the subject, as I expected to see you in a day or two, and learn of you the proper mode to make the application, as well as get you to second it if you were so inclined. Not having met with you so soon as I hoped I write this to beg you to tell me how I shall go to work for my friend and whether you can do any thing for him on your part. 1
