Impact of Health and Disability on Sexuality
The elderly have increased risk for many health problems that have ran impact on sexuality. One of the most common of these is the increased use of medications for hypertension, arthritis, and other chronic health problems. Each health problem, also impacts on the ability to engage in sexual activities and sexual desire.
Among the many other health problems that impact on sexuality are diabetes, Parkinsons disease, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, strokes, heart attack, stress, depression, colostomy and fleostomy, lung disease, obesity, and cancer. Injuries such as head injuries and other fractures also affect sexuality.
Articles offering suggestions for overcoming sexual problems related to health issues are included in this chapter. The most frequent suggestion is exercise.
