In this work I transliterate Korean words according to the McCuneReischauer system. Personal names are cited in text, notes, and bibliography with surnames first. The exception to this are Korean names that appear as popularly Romanized in the Western-language literature, unless specifically cited within the context of a Korean-language source. For example, I refer to "Lee Tong-won" in the former context and "Yi Tongwo+̆n" in the latter. Japanese names and words are written as conventionally found in the Western literature.
