target child (as opposed to laboratory measures, see Schneider & Gearhart, 1988). Examination of developmental stage of both the child and family, as well as consistency within the parental dyad, seem to be fruitful areas for the development of family adaptation models. These models, in turn, should be the basis of interventions designed to reduce the risk of poor achievement outcomes among disabled children.
