Project management is one of several organizational management styles. It is often championed first by middle management in a functional organization that is under pressure to get results that require high levels of intraorganizational cooperation on a complex project or on large volumes of dissimilar work. Both situations clearly need close coordination and scheduling. Neither of these usually exists to the extent required to get top quality project performance.
