Impostors represent the extreme end of the continuum of pathological liars. They continuously live a lie, to the point of assuming new names and identities for each role they play. For some there is a con-artist quality to their posturing; for others, the only identifiable goal of the imposture is the thrill of pulling it off. Patients with Munchausen syndrome deceive doctors and pose as medical patients; they have many similarities to impostors.
