My job in production control was interesting, it was a challenge, but it was mainly a man's position. There are more women breaking into it. To be very honest, what with the new age of computerization, I started looking forward to retirement five years ahead of time. My job became nerve-racking after we started using computers, because if the computer goes down or somebody pushes the wrong button and your information is lost, you have a real problem. I thought early retirement was a great idea. If you stop to think about it, there were a lot of people like my dad who passed away exactly eleven months after his retirement party.
I've always had a lot of interests, so I wasn't worried about what I would do with my time when I retired. I used to be a member of various union committees when I was working. Photography has always been a number-one interest and I've always been interested in politics.
Most of my friends were made on the job. If we did anything, it was mostly with people whom we worked with.
