My business was started from a humble beginning. I worked to make a living and improve myself and become successful so I could enjoy the amenities of life.
My work was very meaningful to me for the first 25 years. After that time, I was disenchanted with the everyday work. It got a little boring for me, and this is when I became involved in outside activities. I think the challenge was gone. I had reached the point in the business where I knew it was not going to be a tremendously large company. I found that I could operate it just as well with less time on my part. The last 15 years I was in business, I only spent half a day in the office, and my success was just as great or greater than in previous years. I could have retired after 25 years if I had wanted to.
I wasn't looking forward to retirement. I wasn't saying, I wish I could retire and do what I want. Retirement to me was just to get out of the general everyday pressures, but I wasn't interested in loafing. I wouldn't call mine a retirement--I sold my business after 30 years.
