The Report of this Joint Project between the Department of Industrial Design, National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan and the Department of Product Design, University of Kassel, Germany that was to explore the possibilities and the limitations of Distributed Design. Three groups of design students from two different countries with different cultural background and different native language were to work on a specific design task and to communicate and exchange ideas via Internet.
From the Taiwanese side Prof. Dr. Frue Cheng directed eight students. Two Assistants, Ying-Hung Yen ( National Taipei University of Technology), responsible for the technical aspects and Holger Hoehn ( Kusthochschule BerlinWeissensee, Hochschule fuer Gestaltung), who was in charge of the design issues also participated in this project.
On the German side three students participated in the joint project, directed by Prof. Hans Dehlinger, who also was the initiator of this project. He was being supported by his assistant Oliver D. Endemann.
The idea was to cooperate on a classical design task and to develop a final product by communicating over long distance via Internet. As a theme the product category of a flash light was chosen.
