The primary editions for the most commonly cited poems are (for the Old English) The Exeter Book, vols. 1 and 2, published by The Early English Text Society, and (for the Welsh) The Red Book of Hergest and The Book of Taliesin, edited by J. Gwenogvryn Evans. I give column (or stanza) and line numbers for the Welsh texts and line numbers (and page numbers where a short text is cited in full) for the English texts. These editions have the advantage of being the least altered by modern punctuation and emendation. Other editions, manuscripts, and dictionaries are listed below for the more occasional reference and are used primarily in the footnotes and the Appendix.
