This book owes its greatest debt to the writers and presenters who contributed their thoughts on the important issues of basic academic skills assessment in higher education and to the staffs of the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and National Evaluation Systems, Inc., associated with the creation and development of the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP).

Getting the ideas of the authors and the components of the TASP into printed form involved the talents of many people at National Evaluation Systems, Inc. Nancy Seely, Emily Silverman, and Edward Murphy copyedited the manuscripts and transcripts from our authors and oversaw the production of the documents that appear in the latter part of this book.
