"What a drag it is getting old."
-- Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Old age isn't always a drag, but neither is it always pleasant. Some of the less than upbeat views of aging you read in the first chapter are often based on fact. People do grow old and they do incur a lot of problems. If you know about and understand these problems, perhaps then you will be able to recognize them when you, too, are aged. And you may realize why some old people behave the way they do. That may keep you from growing impatient with your elderly grandmother or crotchety great-uncle when she or he seems to be totally out of touch with you and your attitudes.
