This glossary groups related terms into paragraphs. As far as possible, the definitions adhere to those used in the relevant scientific disciplines, but in cases where the definitions and/or connotations differ between disciplines, yet remain relevant to the physiogenetic thesis, the simplest definitions are used. Sometimes they are the vernacular.
System, Machine, Order, Disorder, Synergism, Linear, Nonlinear. A system is a set of elements (or their equivalent) organized to accomplish the purpose for which the system was designed or which can be inferred. Machine is a common name given to many compact, usually man-made physical systems.
